Hope that everyone is having a great summer and as we start to ramp up the hockey season, we wanted to reach out to everyone update everyone on the Rec Select and Travel Light Programs (for the 24-25 season we are only planning on having Travel Light for the 12U age group). We will be holding a zoom call with myself, Jeff Markham, Dean Christy and Chris Pallavicini to discuss the program and answer questions for those that have signed up or may not have signed up yet.

Below is the framework of each of the programs as currently proposed:
Rec Select:
This program is aimed at players that that want to play against competition outside of the house league. Based on the level of interest THA will form a team at each of the different age groups (10u, 14u, 16u and 18u). Once the teams are formed, we will work with other programs across the state that have Rec Select teams and we will also explore the potential for participating in tournaments in the area. One of the most exciting aspects of Rec Select Hockey is the opportunity to participate in tournaments and intramural games with other local teams. These events not only provide a chance to showcase their skills but also foster a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among our players. From thrilling victories to hard-fought battles, every game is a chance to grow as an athlete and as a team.
Sign up for Rec-Select will open after the season commences in the fall. The cost for rec-select will be $300 per player plus the cost of the jersey. When travel is involved, the families will be responsible for travel related expenses including hotels and transportation.
- Based on participation we plan on identifying 4-5 teams to play a home and away with (8-10 games) and the possibility of going to a tournament (4 games)
All the ice touches for the Rec-Select program will be in addition to the practices and games that are part of the Rec/House Program.
Travel Light:
THA will be offering a Travel Light program where players that are already registered with the Rec/House League for the 2012 and 2013 birth years can join the 12U White Travel Team for practice and skills sessions as well as games and tournaments. Players in the Travel Light program will be rostered on the 12U White Travel Team and will participate in games and tournaments on a rotating basis. Based on the total number of players that sign up the breakdown of games and tournaments will vary.
Below is an example of what it could look like if we were to have 8 skaters sign up:
- Tournaments
o The 12U White Team will participate in 4 or 5 tournaments equaling 16-20 games
o Each skater would be eligible to participate in 1-2 tournaments with the team
- Games
o Outside of Tournaments the 12U White Team will play 24-28 games between CHL League Games and Exhibition Games
o Each Skater would be eligible to participate in 4 to 6 games
- Practices
o The 12U White Team will have 2 practices and 1 skills session each week
o Skaters will participate in 1 practice and 1 skills session
All the ice touches for the Travel Light program will be in addition to the practices and games that are part of the Rec/House Program.
Sign-up for Travel Light will open right after the zoom call on August 21 st and participation in practices can begin participating with the team as soon as the commitment letter is signed. The cost for Travel Light will be $800 per player. When travel is involved, the families will be responsible for travel related expenses including hotels and transportation.
We look forward to these new offerings that THA is bringing to the membership this year. THA believes that both opportunities give our Rec/House players the opportunity to experience travel hockey without the full commitment that generally comes with being on a travel team and further grow the game of hockey in the Triad.
